(3/4) + (7/12):
you need to have both denominators the same, before you can add the numerators.
the LCD is 12, if you multiply (3/4) by 1, then it's value does not change.
Three-thirds (3/3) is equal to 1, so
3 3
-*- = (3*3) {multiply the numerators}/ (4*3) {multiply the denominators}= 9/12
4 3
so replace (3/4) above with (9/12) since they have the same value, and:
(9/12) + (7/12) =
9 + 7
------- = 16/12
12
This simplifies to 4/3, which is an improper fraction.
Think of it as (3 + 1)/3 = (3/3) + 1/3 = 1 + 1/3 or 1 1/3
Seven-twelfths
1/2 = 6/122/3 = 8/123/4 = 9/12 (generally called quarters not fourths)(6+8+9)/1223/12one and eleven twelfths, or twenty-three twelfths
5 0ver 6 I always hated these questions in Algebra. But they're pretty simple, if you can make the two parts more equal. Since Twelfths and Fourths are different, you have to get them to be the same. It's easier to convert 4ths to 12ths, since Four Goes Into 12 Three times - so ONE FOURTH is the same as THREE TWELFTHS, right? That's the tricky part, right there - being able to see the relationship between FOURTHs and TWELFTHs. So 7/12ths plus 3/12ths is 10/12ths, right? Which is the same as 5/6ths. The first answerer didn't tell you HOW he got the answer, so you were no better off in case it came up again.
8/12, or 2/3
seven twelfths.
twelve and four twelfths
Seven-twelfths
We convert this to twelfths to give: 10 twelfths + 4 twelfths + 9 twelfths = 23 twelfths or 1 and 11 twelfths.
seven
We convert the fractions to twelfths: 1 + 8 twelfths + 9 twelfths. 1 + 17 twelfths 2 and 5 twelfths.
7.75 OR 7 3/4 OR seven and three-fourths
First we convert to the same type, which is twenty-fourths: 6 twenty-fourths + 9 twenty-fourths + 10 twenty-fourths = 25 twenty-fourths or 1 and 1 twenty-fourth.
1/2 = 6/122/3 = 8/123/4 = 9/12 (generally called quarters not fourths)(6+8+9)/1223/12one and eleven twelfths, or twenty-three twelfths
nine and seven twelfths
The answer is 1.
2/4 + 3/12 = 2/4 + 1/4 = 3/4
It is 8 5/8.
