Usually you turn 16 during 10th grade and begin 11th grade at 16. So they would likely be in the 10th or 11th grade. It's also possible to turn 16 while in the 9th grade if you were ever held back, or you could start 12th grade at 16 if you started school early, skipped a grade, or your school district just has a late cutoff date that allowed you to start kindergarten when you were 4 rather than 5.
