Along the bottom and up the left hand side for most graphs.

In the general case the x-axis runs horizontally through the origin, and the y-axis runs vertically through the origin. In each case the axis runs from minus infinity to plus infinity.



Well if your talking about on a coordinate plane or a set of perpendicular lines the y axis goes up and down and the x axis goes sideways (if you want it simple).
