The two men accused of the bombing of Flight 103 were Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi and Lamin Khalifah Fhimah. The former was a Libyan intelligence officer, and the security chief of Libyan Arab Airlines (LAA), and the latter was the LAA station manager at the Luqa Airport in Malta. Fhimah was acquited and al-Megrahi was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. He was recently released on humanitarian grounds as he has advanced (terminal) prostate cancer. The Pan Am Flight 103 disaster was the destruction of a Boeing 747 in flight over Lockerbie, Scotland, in December of 1988. A bomb on board caused critical damage to the forward end of the aircraft, and the front section (including the flight deck and first class compartment) tore away from the rest of the fuselage. The 247 passengers, 12 crew members and 11 townspeople of Lockerbie were killed in the disaster. A link can be found below.
