The question is really "Why is a group of 12 things called 'dozen' ?" or "Where does the word 'dozen' come from ?" It comes from the 13th Century old French "doziene", which in turn came from the Latin "duodecim" which is beginning to look obvious ... "duo" for "two", and "decim" for "ten". Isn't that neat ! I didn't know that until I looked it up in order to answer the question. I'll bet the questioner could have looked it up in the dictionary, easier than booting up, logging on, and typing the question. I sure hope he/she sees the answer.
