Not being a psychologist, I would venture some layman"s opinion. Boys tend to be happy go lucky- resilient, Bouncy( in the psychological sense of the term) and prolonged depression- as you describe, is somewhat rare. obviously some sort of crisis, internal ( family, school, other) or perhap external- maybe he has been abused. All sorts of behavior anomalies have been linked to child abuse and molestation. a sudden acquisition of an obscene vocabulary or barrage of dirty jokes or inuendoes- though there are songs on the radio which are obscene, such as ( Face Down) which is not about card playing! If he is crying all the time- something is very, very wrong. get help.
Another answer:
Crying is not a problem; it is usually a symptom.
The first thing I would do is take him to see a physician. He could be suffering from physical pain. I would want that ruled out. My son was crying constantly. He was walking around with a broken bone. He was in pain. A shot and a cast cured him.
I would check for bullying. He may have been taught not to tattle. That is nonsense.
That is a fairly large gap, but yes if they enjoy each others company and have a good time it is okay.

There are a few reasons why a 3 year old child might cry every time she has to go home to her parents. She might be crying because she doesn't want to leave her friends and toys that she has been playing with.
A 5 year old may cry a lot because they can't talk correctly. If something changes and they cry, they may actually have autism. This is not something that is guaranteed.
Highly Possible, but most probably difficult. As the game was aimed for older audiences.

There are a few reasons why your 12 year old bedlinton terrier might cry at night. If the dog is in pain, it will cry out for attention. As your dog is older in age, it may be becoming senile or confused. In either case, a trip to the vet is in order.
