The Egyptians used an approximation of Pi in the 20th century B.C. and probably used it for construction and building. It is often important to know the circumference of a circle and it is Pi times its diameter. They may have been the first to discover it.

A century later, the Babylonians used Pi. As time passed, the approximation they used improved.
