You use the definition of "quartile". That is, you sort all the numbers in ascending order, then check which number is at the 1/4 position - the position you reach when you count off 1/4 of all the numbers. For instance, if you have 100 numbers, check the number at position 25.

First arrange the observations in increasing order.Count the number of observations (n).

Calculate (n+1)/4 and round it if required to m.

Then the lower quartile is the mth number.

With a large number of observations you can skip the addition of 1 to n.

How do you find the quartiles of a data set?

First arrange the data set in ascending order. Suppose the data set consists of n observations. the index for the lower quartile is (n + 1)/4 and the index for the upper quartile is 3*(n + 1)/4. Find the values that correspond to the number in these positions in the ordered list. For example, if n = 15, then lower index = 4 and upper index = 12. So the lower quartile is the fourth number and the upper quartile is the twelfth. If n is large, you may skip the +1 and just look at n/4 and 3n/4. Often the indices are not integers. Then, if you are a beginner (nd the fact that you asked this question suggests that you are), find the nearest whole numbers for the two indices. Otherwise you need to interpolate and that is a whole new ball game!

What is math outlier?

There is no standard definition. If Q1 is the lower quartile and Q3 the upper quartile of a set of observations, then the inter quartile range (IQR) is Q3 - Q1.Outliers may be defined as values which are smaller than Q1 - k*(IQR) or larger than Q3 + k*IQR where k is some non-negative real number.

How do you work out the adverage?

If you have a list of numbers for which you want to find the average, Example: 3, 4, and 5 The first thing that you need to do is figure out how many numbers there are in the list: Example: 3 Then you need to find the sum of the numbers in the list: Example: 3 + 4 + 5 = 12 Then you divide the sum by the number of numbers in the list: Example: 12 / 3 = 4 And the result is the average of the numbers.
