c^(2) - d^(2) =

(c - d)( c + d) Factored.

NB Two squared terms with a negative(-) between them, factors as above.

However, two squared terms with a positive(+) between them does NOT factor.

.e.g. c^(2) + d^(2) does NOT factor.

Using the Pythgorean Eq'n

h^(2) = a^(2) + b^(2) does NOT factor.

However, rearrganging this eq'n

a^(2) = h^(2) - b^(2) does factor to

a^(2) = (h - b)( h + b)
