In order to graph the equation x-3y = -5, first look at the order of the equation. The order is the maximum exponent encounter. In this case, it is one (x1 and y1) so the equation has order one, which means it is linear, which means it is a straight line.

To graph a straight line, you need two points. Lets use the x and y axis intercepts.

Solve for x when y is zero... x = -5

Solve for y when x is zero... y = 5/3 = 1.67

Plot those two points, (0,1.67) and (-5, 0). Draw a straight line through them. You are done.
