Because they are both negative numbers we have to be careful. At first glance it looks as if 0.7 (seven tenths) is greater than 0.007 (seven thousandths, but that is not correct.

If you placed the two numbers on a number line, both numbers would to the left of zero, and -0.7 would be further to the left than -0.007, showing that -0.7 is less than -0.007
