Let its new length and width be 13-x and 11-x:-

If: (13-x)(11-x) = 111.36

Then: 143-24x+x^2 = 111.36

So: 143-24x+x^2 -111.36 = 0 => 31.64-24x+x^2 = 0

Using the quadratic equation formula: x = 1.4 or x = 22.6

Therefore: x = 1.4 and it can't be 22.6 because it would have negative dimensions

New dimensions: 13-1.4 = 11.6 length and 11-1.4 = 9.6 width

New perimeter: 2(11.6+9.6) = 42.4 cm

Check: 11.6*9.6 = 111.36 square cm

The original sides are 13 and 11. That is length - width = 2.Suppose the new width = x cm

then the new length is x + 2 cm

Therefore area = x*(x + 2)

So x*(x + 2) = 111.36

x^2 + 2x = 111.36

x^2 + 2x + 1 = 112.36

(x + 1)^2 = 112.36

(x + 1) = +/- 10.6

Since x is the measure of a side, x > 0,

therefore x = -1 + 10.6 = 9.6

and then length = x 2 = 11.6

Thus, the new dimensions are 9.6 cm * 11.6 cm.

All dimensions are reduced or enlarged using the same?

when reducing or enlarging the dimensions you obviously have to change the dimensions. but do not change the ratio of the vaules. also do not cahnge the unit of the values.

What happens to a perimeter if you halve each side?

Imagine an n-sided polygon with a side length of x, then perimeter = nx. If sides are reduced to x/2 the perimeter becomes nx/2, ie it is halved.

How do you work out the area if the perimeter is 12?

You cannot. All that you can be sure of is that the area is at most 11.46 units. If the shape is a rectangle, it can be 1 x 5 with an area of 5 square units or 0.1 x 5.9 with an area 0.59 square units or 0.01 x 5.99 with an area of 0.0599 sq units and so on. The area can be reduced to as close to zero as you want.

How many feet in the perimeter of a 10 acre lot?

The area of a lot is not enough information to determine its perimeter. The most compact perimeter is approx 740 feet, which is attained by a circular lot. Consider the following rectangular plots, each is of area 1 acre: 100 ft * 435.6ft : perimeter = 1071.2 ft 10 ft * 4356 ft : perimeter = 8732 ft 1 ft * 4356 ft : perimeter = 87122 ft 0.1 ft * 43560 ft : perimeter = 871200.2 ft ... 0.000001 ft * 43,560,000,000 ft : perimeter = 87,120,000,000 ft (approx) = 16,500,000 miles. There is virtually no limit to how much the first dimension can be reduced and the perimeter increased.

What is the area of a perimeter of 2.4?

Any positive value upto 0.36 square units. A 0.6 x 0.6 square will have the maximum area of 0.36 sq units; a 0.5 x 0.7 rectangle will have an area of 0.35 sq units, and the area will be reduced as you reduce one of the measures and increase the other so that their sum remains 1.2 units so that the perimeter is 2.4 units. 0.1x1.1 will be 0.11 sq units 0.01x1.19 will be 0.0119 sq units 0.001x1.199 will be 0.001199 sq units 0.0001x1.1999 will be 0.00011999 sq units, etc.

A rectangle has a base of 5 inches and a height of 7 inches If the dimensions are cut in half what will happen to the area of the rectangle?

It doesn't make any difference what the original dimensions are. If they're both cut in half, the area is reduced to 1/4 of the original area.

What is the are of a shape when the perimeter is 42.5?

A perimeter is not enough to determine the area. It depends on the shape. The shape has the greatest area if it is a circle and then the area will be 143.73 square units (approx). If it a square, the area will be 112.890625 sq units. But the area can be reduced, without limit, by making the shape longer and thinner. For example, 20*1.25 rectangle: area = 25 sq units 21*0.25 rectangle: area = 5.25 sq units 21.2*0.05 rectangle: area = 1.06 sq units 21.24*0.001 rectangle: area = 0.2124 sq units etc

How many acres in a parcel of land 4000 feet perimeter?

A perimeter is not enough to determine the area. A 4000 ft perimeter could be a circular shape with radius giving an area of 1,273,000 sq ft (approx) = 29.23 acres. It could be a 1000 ft * 1000 ft square with an area of 1,000,000 sq ft = 22.96 acres or a 500 ft * 1500 ft rectangle with an area of 750,000 sq ft = 17.22 acres or a 100 ft * 1900 ft rectangle with an area of 190,000 sq ft = 4.36 acres or a 10 ft * 1990 ft rectangle with an area of 19,900 sq ft = 0.46 acres or a 1 ft * 1999 ft rectangle with a n area of 1,999 sq ft = 0.05 acres or a 0.1 ft * 1999.9 ft etc. As you might guess from the above, by reducing one dimension the area of the parcel of land can be reduced without limit although the perimeter is left unchanged.
