draw a number line and place a zero in the center of this line. any number to the LEFT of zero obviously is negative and numbers to the right of zero are positive. if this number line is marked by tenths the first number to the left of zero is -.1 , the next number is -.2 , then -.3 ,-.4 ,-.5,-.6. do you see the pattern here? as you continue on this number line to infinity the numbers get smaller and smaller. that's why -.6 is less than -.3
