"Giacomo": The Doge did what the Doge does, when a Doge does his duty to the Duke.

"Doge" is a title used by several Italian city-states in the middle ages and during the Rennaisance. It was used for the elected head of certain republics, most notably Venice (where it was sometimes spelled "Doxe") and Genoa (which preferred "Duxe"). The word itself is etymologically related to English "Duke".
