show you how to find it.

You have said: 3x - 2.61 - 2x = 4.98

If we recall that (3 of anything) - (2 of the same thing) = (1 of the same thing),

we realize that the terms with 'x' in them on the left side can be combined, thus

cleaning up the whole equation:

x - 2.61 = 4.98

Now, add 2.61 to each side:

x = 7.59

In order for the statement to be true, 'x' must be no other number but 7.59 .

The solution has not so much been 'found' as it has jumped out at us without

warning.
