He invented the second mechanical calculating machine... we know about. It is called the Pascalina* and several exist today. The link following is a website which discusses it and how it can be used for more than the addition and subtraction it was originally intended for.

He is much better remembered for his contributions to mathematical theory, fluid dynamics and religion and philosophy than his development, as a 19 year old, of a machine to help his father count count and collect taxes in France in the 17th century.

*It was also called the Arithmetique.
