"Percent" means "out of 100".

Thus to convert a percentage to a fraction put it over 100 and simplify. Examples:

50 % = 50/100 = 1/2

33 1/3 % = (33 1/3)/100 = (33 1/3 × 3)/(100 × 3) = 100/300 = 1/3

To convert a percentage to a decimal (as it is equivalent to a fraction with a denominator of 100 and conversion of a fraction to a decimal is achieved by dividing the numerator by the denominator) divide it by 100. Examples:

50 % = 50 ÷ 100 = 0.5

17.5 % = 17.5 ÷ 100 = 0.175

250 % = 250 ÷ 100 = 2.5

To do the reverse, multiply the value of 100 %. Examples

½ = ½ × 100 % = (½ × 100) % = 50 %

7/8 = 7/8 × 100 % = 700/8 % = 87½ % = 87.5 %

0.35 = 0.35 × 100 % = 35 %

0.012 = 0.012 × 100 % = 1.2 %

2.5 = 2.5 × 100 % = 250 %

Fractions to decimals: Divide the numerator by the denominator. Decimals to fractions: Put the fraction without the decimal point in the numerator. In the denominator, put a "1", followed by as many zeroes as there are decimals. For example, 0.058 becomes 58 / 1000.
