How do you construct square given the difference between the diagonal and aside?

Given side S, the diagonal is S * √2. So the difference is

Diagonal - side = (S √2) - S = S (√2 - 1)

so

Given Difference / (2 - 1) = S

That's the size of the side of the square :)
