First of all you turn the fraction in to a decimal value by dividing the number on the top (numerator) by the number on the bottom (denominator).

An Example

1/4 = 0.25 (just do 1 divided by 4 on your calculator)

Then you round your answer to one decimal place. We do this by looking at the second digit after the decimal point and asking if this digit is greater than or equal to 5.

If it is greater than or equal to 5 then we have to round up by adding one to the digit to its immediate left (in this case the first digit after the decimal point). If it is less than 5 then we round down (we leave the digit to its immediate left as it is).

Note: It is the first digit after the decimal point that could change during this process here and this is why we say the answer is correct (has been rounded) to one decimal place.

So rounding 0.25 to one decimal place:

The second digit after the decimal point IS equal to or greater than 5 (it is 5). So we round up.

0.25 becomes 0.3 (to one decimal place).

To get the decimal, divide the numerator of the fraction by the denominator. If the decimal runs to more than one place, then you have to round it to one decimal place.

How can you find 15 percent of 75 and express it as a decimal?

First of all you have to multiply 75/1 and 15/100 which is 1125/100. then, to make it a proper fraction, you simplify it to 11 25/100 (which the correct answer is 11 1/4) To make it a decimal you have to put it to the hundredths place which you already did. so it is 1125%

What does decimal fraction mean?

A decimal number is one in which the place value of each digit is ten times the place value of the digit to its right. (... , thousands, hundreds, tens, units, tenths, hundredths, ... ) A decimal point is used to separate the units from the tenths. If a number in decimal form has non-zero digits after the decimal point then it is a decimal fraction. [There is one esoteric exception: if the decimal point is followed by an infinite string of 9s, then it is not a decimal fraction.] Thus 37.6 is a decimal fraction 0.6 is a decimal fraction 0.00000063 is a decimal fraction 37 is not a decimal fraction. 37.0 is not a decimal fraction. 37.999... recurring is no a decimal fraction [it is in fact = 38].

How do you express a percent as a decimal and as a fraction?

Given a number in percentage form, you move the decimal point two places to the left to express it in decimal form. If it had no decimal place to start with, append one at the end of the number. If there are not enough digits to move the decimal place two places, then insert 0s before the start of the percentage. To convert to a fraction, divide the percentage by 100. Simplify the fraction is you so wish.So 42% is 42. (append decimal point) and the decimal is 0.453.5% is 0.03542% = 42/100 = 21/50.3.5% = 3.5/100 = 35/1000 = 7/200.

Can you express 0.30 as a fraction in simplest form?

To convert a decimal to a fraction, take a look at how many places the decimal takes up (this does not include zeros). There is only one, the tens place. So place 3 over 10. Since it is already in simplest form, that is your answer(3/10).
