No need to estimate. Example:

1 2/3 times 4 and 3/4 are mixed numbers. Convert them to fractions. You take the denominator (the bottom number) and multiply it be the whole number, and add to that the numerator (the top number). Then place that over the original denominator.

Thus it is 5/3 times 19/4.

Now multiply 5 times 19 to get 95. That will be the answer's numerator. Multiply 3 times 4 to get 12. That will be the answer's denominator.

Thus the answer is 95/12 or as a mixed number again, simply divide 95 by 12 to get 7 with a remainder of 11. The seven is the whole number and the remainder of 11 is placed over the original denominator of 12.

Thus 7 and 11/12ths.
