As 7.5mm equates to 0.75cm is is nearer to 7cm than it is to 8cm but it is thought that this may be an inputting error and the expression should have been 7.5cm.

7.5 is midway between 7 and 8.

For practical purposes when rounding off numbers is is accepted that when a five has to be discarded then the previous number is increased by 1. So 7.5 would be rounded off to 8.

This does not imply that 7.5 is nearer to 8 than it is to 7, it is merely a way of dealing with this particular problem which occurs frequently in rounding off number problems.
