2(s + t + w) = N -------> s + t + w = N/2 which implies that N/2 is a whole number, which therefore means that N is even. (implying that sum of evens results in evens)
Now onto the main question.
The double of any whole number is even, therefore imagine two odd numbers:
2n + 1 and 2m +1
They are odd since we have the double of any number plus 1.
[2n + 1] + [2m + 1] = 2n + 2m + 2
2 is even, so is 2n and 2m. We have a sum of even numbers, which we just saw results in an even number. Therefore the sum of two odds is an even number.
