xy = 2 : substituting for y in this equation gives x(5 - x) = 2 :5x - x2 = 2 :x2 - 5x + 2 = 0
Solving for the roots of a quadratic equation gives : x = 2.5 ± √4.25 = 2.5 ± 2.062
The numbers are 2.5 + 2.062 = 4.562 and 2.5 - 2.062 = 0.438 (3dp)
