Best Answer

X^2 + x - 1

Does NOT factor into REAL numbers.

Using the Quadratic Eq'n

x = {-1 +/- sqrt{(1^2 - 4(1)(-1)]} / 2(1)

x = { -1 +/- sqrt( 1 +4)} / 2

x = { - 1 sqrt(5)} / 2

x = { - 1 +/- 2.23606...} / 2

x = -3.23606.../2 = -1.61880....

&

x = 1.23506.../ 2 = 0.6180....

NB The result produces two Irrational Numbers.

Casually, Irrational numbers are those were the decimals go to infinity and there is no regular order in the decimal digits.
