To find the floor area of a room, multiply the length by the width. If accuracy is important, any alcoves (recesses) should be calculated separately and added to the main room area. An example for a 24 ft x 12 ft room: 24 x 12 = 288 square feet (288ft2). There are two alcoves, 1 either side of a fireplace, 4ft x 2ft: (4 x 2) x 2 = 16 square feet. Therefore, the total area is: 288 + 16 = 304 square feet. The above is with a fireplace ignored when measuring.
