You need two dimensions to calculate the area of a rectangle.
Area = length multiplied by width.

Multiply the length by the width. If the rectangle is a square the two dimensions will be the same

Surface area of rectangle: 15 times 8 = 120 square inches
If the area is of a rectangle, it is simply the length times the width. If you have a rectangle with sides of 2 and 50 then the area is 100.
