In 1769 the Scotsman, James Watt (1736-1819), patented a new, much more efficient design for steam engines which ushered in the Industrial Revolution. With faster, more reliable forms of travel available, settlers could spread further faster.
Prior to the Civil War, steamships required a huge amount of coal and this was generally soft coal that produced terrible fumes and smoke. Speeds were very slow, usually only 8 or 9 knots. Most steamships were not very seaworthy and were not capable of long voyages or serving in violent weather. They also had a habit of catching fire or exploding.
all inventions and any discovery has both positive and negative effects even if we don't know it that's just a fact of life. for example the electronic/mecanical assembly line the positive is that it creates even faster and similar items the negative is it puts alot of people out of a job
The two positive ways are that they made life easier to do daily tasks and it also made things quicker. The two negative things are that it cost a lot of money to build these inventions and also some of the inventions were not the best for the environment. =D
Indians invented the number 0, without which no other inventions are possible. Possitive and Negative Numbers
Imperialism split the country apart. (Imperialists/Anti-Imperialists) We hadn't seen this kind of separation since the Civil War. Imperialism led most to not follow the original values our fore fathers set out for us in the Declaration of Independence. We were controlling other countries instead of letting them govern themselves. (e.g. Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Guam) We overall ended up with a better economy, and became a more powerful nation. That's the best I info. I could give. :)
One of the most beneficial inventions is the computer which has made life much more convenient. Discovering the human activities may cause negative effects to the environment is also quite beneficial.
Mankind is always trying to improve their life, make life easier, save time, get dangerous or hard jobs done by machine, etc. Some invent things purely as a money making scheme. Industry is interested in inventions to make things cheaper and/or faster. Some see a need for an invention that no one has thought of before and have to overcome negative reactions. The telephone, television and computer are some of the breakthrough inventions, that initially no one thought would catch on, yet progressed to be everyday objects and changed modern life.
Some things that were invented in 1928 are the ice cube tray, and the electric razor. Other items on the list are the negative pressure ventilator and Freon. Penicillin wasn't exactly invented, but it was discovered in 1928.
There is a negative side to almost every invention ever made if it is examined closely enough. Some of the more dangerous ones are nuclear power, microwaves, pesticides and polycarbonate plastics.
