STAR Topology
A star topology; a network topology in which endpoints on a network are connected to a common central device by point-to-point links.
A node is a device connected to a network such as a computer or a game console. (Each device connected to a network is referred to as a node. A node can be a computer, printer, game console, or router.)
A star topology uses a central network device, such as a hub or a switch, to connect all nodes in the network. Each node is connected directly to the central device, creating a centralized architecture that simplifies network management and troubleshooting.
A network ready device is a device that has the potential to connect to a network, natively it isn't connected to a network, nor is it a network, but with the appropriate configuration and possibly with the addition of components could be connected.

In a star topology, all devices are connected directly to a central hub or switch. This central device manages the flow of data between all connected devices, minimizing network collisions and enabling easy addition or removal of devices without affecting the network as a whole. However, if the central hub fails, the whole network can be affected.

What one computer can do is tell you if another device is connected to the same network and is switched on. If a computer has been connected to a network and the network administrator has electronically asked who's connected and what are you doing then more detailed information is collected.
Generally taken, in computer technology, to be 'Local Area Network' - for example the network of computers connected to a central device (server, printer, router etc.) which all can use or access.
In a star topology, each device connects to a central network connectivity device such as a hub, switch, or router. These devices would be connected as a "star" (points on a star). The other characteristic of a star topology is that a failing connection will only affect the failed device unless that device is the connectivity device. This means that in most cases a failing device on a star will not take down the entire network. Another characteristic of a star is that they are easily expandable and scalable.
