It is claimed thaht he got his inspiration while in bed - and watching a fly (or some bug) on the ceiling. He worked out that he could describe the bug's position on the ceiling using coordinates. And the rest, as they say, is history.

How do you name coordinate plane?

Its other name is the Cartesian plane and it was the French mathematician Rene Descartes who first conceived of the idea of x and y axes on the coordinate plane

Who had the idea of the coordinate plane?

Rene Descartes.

Which year was coordinate geometry found and by whom?

The idea was first proposed by Descartes in 1637.

Who inveted graphing linear equations?

Rene Descartes (1596-1650) invented the idea of plotting pairs of numbers on a plane using two perpendicular axes. This "Cartesian coordinate" system is named after him. A linear equation appears as a straight line.Other equations produce different geometrical shapes, and this branch of math is called Analytic Geometry.

What is the history of the rectangular coordinate system?

The adjective Cartesian refers to the French mathematician and philosopher René Descartes (who used the name Cartesius in Latin). The idea of this system was developed in 1637 in two writings by Descartes and independently by Pierre de Fermat, although Fermat used 3 dimensions and did not publish the discovery.[1] In part two of his Discourse on Method, Descartes introduces the new idea of specifying the position of a point or object on a surface, using two intersecting axes as measuring guides.[citation needed] In La Géométrie, he further explores the above-mentioned concepts.[2] It may be interesting to note that some have indicated that the master artists of the Renaissance used a grid, in the form of a wire mesh, as a tool for breaking up the component parts of their subjects they painted. That this may have influenced Descartes is merely speculative.[citation needed] (See perspective, projective geometry.) Representing a vector in the standard basis. The development of the Cartesian coordinate system enabled the development of calculus by Isaac Newton and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibnitz.[3] Many other coordinate systems have been developed since Descartes, such as the polar coordinates for the plane, and the spherical and cylindrical coordinaes for three-dimensional space.

René Descartes If you recall this system is called the Cartesian Coordinate system.

How Rene descartes discover cartesian plane?

Descartes worked on the idea for the Cartesian coordinate system over the course of many years. His writings, including "Geometry", which was published in 1637, outlined the idea of the Cartesian coordinate system.

When was the Cartesian Coordinate System invented?

The Cartesian coordinate system was invented in the 17th century. The idea of this system was developed in 1637.

Who is the french philosopher and mathematician that first devised the coordinate system?

The idea of Cartesian coordinates was the brainchild of the French mathematician and philosopher Rene' Descartes in the early 17th century.

Did Rene descartes make m the variable for slope?

Rene Descartes invented the Cartesian coordinate system and the idea of the x-y axis. He used the coordinate system to express equations and formulas visually through slopes and lines. He created a slope for the equation, rather than the equation for a slope.

What year did Rene descartes introduce the caresian coordinate system?

The idea was published in 1637.

What is the importance of coordinate cartesian system?

coordinate system is very important for making maps. we can easily make maps and draw the countries correctly on their latitudes and longitudes location.so coordinate system is very important. (It says that Rene Decartes' simply idea of the rectangular coordinate system, known as the Cartesian coordinate system in his honor, was from looking at maps when he was a marine)

Who is the french mathematician that invented Cartesian coordinate plane?

Rene Descartes, the surname means ( some charts or some maps) Descartes theorized than any equation can be expressed in graphical form, form follows family names! Descartes and the Cartesian idea became associated with the Cartesian diver, a toy deep-see diver that rises and falls owing to buoyancy and openings in the diver figure. It is probable this came along long after the death of M Descartes, but was bestowed in an honorary fashion- as were many of the (Inventions) of Leonardo Da Vinc i and closer to home, Franklin.

How did Rene descartes discover cartesian plane?

The idea for it came from watching a fly crawl along the tiled floor.
