It's simple.

Any who has played with a compass know that it is easy to divide a circle into 6 equal angles, then 12, then 24.

Early sundial makers took advantage of this.

24 hours is the amount of time it takes for the earth to spin in a circle. it takes 24 hours for the sun to get to the same spot.

Because of the way it revolves and rotates. There is no advantage to this period, if it had a 14 or 36 hour rotation we would think it was normal.

Because it takes planet earth 24 hours to completely rotate on it's axis. If it were any faster or slower, we would be able to feel the earth itself spinning.
