If it is 5 molar: 5 moles per liter, then you start with 5 moles of salt. You will always have 5 moles of salt, but it is spread among a bigger volume.
So you want it to be 2 moles per liter, so the amount of salt is 2*V, but we know that there are 5 moles, so we have 2*V = 5, and V = 5/2 = 2.5 Liters. Since we started with 1 liter, we must add 1.5 liters.
