Best Answer

Porins are proteins that are located in the outer membrane a bacteria. They function to form a water-filled pore through the membrane. The porin channel allows the diffusion of small hydrophilic (water-loving) molecules through to the periplasm.

What is the the function of proteins in the plasma membrane?

The proteins of the plasma serve the function of acting as porins. Porins are channels control the transport of substances in and out of the cell, imparting the membrane its property of semipermeabililty. Also, proteins make up 60-70% of the plasma membrane and thus form the bulk of it. Besides, the proteins are also involved in some important cellular reations.

Why is disinfectant resistant to disinfectant?

beause they contain some proteins called porins that show little permeability for hydrophilic solutes. these porins vary/change their structure to escape from antibacterial pressure or regulation.

What are porins?

Porins are beta barrel proteins that cross a cellular membrane and act as a pore. If you would take a nail and pound it through a sheet of wood, you would form a pore but you would call it a small hole.

What are the holes in a cell membrane?

They are called porins and help in the transfer of materials in and out of the cell.

What would not be found in the cytoplasm of a bacterial cell A endospores B ribosomal RNA C nucleoid D porins?

endospores

Why might there be a differential effect of an antibiotic between a gram positive and gram negative bacterium?

Because of the lipopolysaccaride outer layer of Gram-negative bacteria and the porins that form water-filled channels across this layer.

What are the holes in the mitochondria of an animal cell called?

They are not holes. They are membrane proteins.

What type of proteins are used in facilitated diffusion?

they can be of varying types. examples include like porins, aquaporins and ion channles.

Why is ADH secreted?

It is secreted when the body senses and increase in osmolarity, like in dehydration. It creates aqua-porins in the distal tubule in the kidneys to increase water reabsorption.

How do water molecules and small ions enter cells?

Some water molecules and small ions ( depending on charge, other ions need passive or active transport ) can diffuse across the cell's membrane and there are channels called porins that facilitate water molecule passage into the cell.

What does mitochondria contain?

A mitochondrion consists of outer and inner membranes, an intermembrane space (space in between the membranes), the cristae (infoldings of the inner membrane), and the matrix (space within the inner membrane). The outer membrane contains several porins that form channels. This also contains its' own DNA.
