You can take it to your local law enforcement agency and ask them to run it through the national database of stolen firearms. For a fee, the holder of Federal Firearms Dealer License would probably also do it. CAUTION: DO NOT CARRY IT into your local police station unless it is securely wrapped or boxed.
Every Police agency in the United States should have computer access to the Federal Data base that contains a list of all known stolen firearms. So if you would like to buy a specific gun write down the serial number and take it to your local police department and tell then that you are looking to buy a gun and you would like to make sure that it is not stolen. Then give them the serial number, Make model and any other specifics. If nothing comes up then either the gun is not stolen or it was never reported as stolen. Be prepared to answer some questions if the gun does come back as stolen. If that happens you had better be prepared to tell the officer how you know of the gun, where you looked at it and who tried to sell it to you. The advice I would give you is just to stay away from any deals from strangers that seem a little to good to be true. If you only ever buy from a Licensed dealer and people whom you know not to be criminals then you will save yourself any potential troubles. So Always abide by your state, local and Federal Laws, and you should not have to worry about a possible stolen firearm.
Wait for it to get flagged when it is bought/sold or wait for someone to get caught with it by the police. The police typically check the serial number of a gun when it is found or somehow involved in a crime or traffic stop.
Call you carrier and tell them it was stolen and then call the police. Also if you have a app like Lookout check to see were it is.
If it has a serial number, ask your local police force to check it out. If it doesn't, it would be almost impossible for anyone to prove it was stolen.
Depending on where you are, a local gun shop may be able to run a stolen gun request for you. You can do that in Tennessee, *IF* your local gun shop is willing to do it. Otherwise, you will probably have to check with the local Police Department.
Read it on the receiver <><><> If by "run", you mean check it against a database of stolen firearms, THAT database is available only to law enforcement. You can ask local police to check for you- they will want to have the gun in hand when they do that, in the event that it IS stolen.
If you mean that possession of a particular model of a gun is permitted in your state, a local gun shop should be able to advise you. If you mean whether a particular gun has been stolen, check with local law enforcement officials.
If you mean where is a website that you can check to see if a gun is registered, there's not one.
No practical way to do this. If the seller was a dealer, and you filled out paperwork at the show, you may be able to go to the dealer and have them check their records. If you do not know who the dealer was, no way.
If "legal" means those reported stolen, then only law enforcement agencies have access. If your referring to characteristics of a gun, then the BATFE website may be of help.
my knowledge on the sugject is that if a person had no prior knowledge that it was stolen then if the police find the gun and see it is stolen then theyll return it to its rightful owner, this goes for any property that they believe is stolen but that the police do not believe is the owner. so most likely a person would not get any punishment, but that might be effected by local or state laws or it could be effected by the specific situation.
Legally, most everywhere you can keep a gun in your car and in your place of business. Check local laws to be sure. In practical terms, keeping a gun in the car is a bad idea because it can get stolen very easily.
Place your hand near the barrel. If you feel heat, it's hot. If you want to know if it's stolen, check with your local police.
