When people started classifying numbers in different ways Some numbers were grouped together and called Real numbers. Solutions that would create Imaginary numbers were simply explained away as impossible, later the rules for working with these numbers, but, even though they are not considered Real numbers some math operations will create Real number answers.

What is complex math?

Complex math covers how to do operations on complex numbers. Complex numbers include real numbers, imaginary numbers, and the combination of real+imaginary numbers.

What numbers are not real numbers?

The square root of any negative number is not a real number. denoted as i for imaginary because it does not exist, in the normal concept of numbers.Complex numbers (which include real and imaginary numbers) are combinations of real & imaginary numbers. While these numbers do not exist in the everyday concept of numbers, they are important in concepts of electricity and waves.

In a short explanation what is the real number system?

Real numbers are numbers that can be found on the number line. This includes both the rational and irrational numbers. The Real Numbers did not have a name before Imaginary Numbers were thought of. They got called "Real" because they were not Imaginary.

Are there more real numbers than imaginary numbers?

Both imaginary and real numbers are infinite .Answer:Any real number can be turned into an imaginary number by multiplying it by "i" ot "j" (the root of -1). Hence it would appear that the set of all real numbers would equal the set of all imaginary numbers. However 0 (zero) multiplied by anything still equals zero. This would mean that there is at least one number that cannot be converted to an imaginary number.

Are negative numbers real numbers?

Yes, any positive or negative number is a real number, including 0. Non real (or imaginary) numbers are the ones that have an "i" or "j" such as j1.5 or 1.5i The imaginary numbers come from expressions like sqrt(-1), its impossible to come up with a real answer so the imaginary one would be 1i or i

Which of these sets of numbers is not a subset of the real numbers irrational integer rational and imaginary?

Imaginary numbers are not a subset of the real numbers; imaginary means not real.

Can a complex number be imaginary?

Yes, imaginary numbers are a subset of complex numbers.

What numbers are not real?

Imaginary numbers are not real numbers.

Is the imaginary unit 8i irrational?

No, it is imaginary. Irrational numbers are a subset of real numbers Real numbers and imaginary numbers are sets without any overlap.

Are imaginary numbers irrational numbers?

No. Irrational numbers are real numbers, therefore it is not imaginary.

Are all imaginary numbers are real numbers?

No. None are because the opposite of a real number is an imaginary number. In real numbers there are rational, irrational, counting, whole numbers, and integers.

How are irrational numbers real numbers?

They aren't imaginary.

How are real numbers imaginary numbers and complex numbers related?

It helps to visualize the numbers on a plane. The complex numbers occupy the entire plane. The real numbers are all the numbers on the horizontal axis, the imaginary numbers are all the numbers on the vertical axis. A complex number thus has a real and an imaginary part, a + bi, where a and be are real numbers (for example, 3 - 2i).

Which number belongs to the set of imaginary numbers 2?

2 does belong to the set of imaginary numbers. Any real number is also imaginary. Imaginary numbers are the set of all numbers that can be expressed as a +b*i where "i" is the square root of negative one and "a" and "b" are both real numbers.

What is subset of imaginary numbers?

A subset of imaginary numbers consists of numbers that can be expressed in the form (bi), where (b) is a real number and (i) is the imaginary unit, defined as (i = \sqrt{-1}). This subset includes numbers like (2i), (-3.5i), and (0.1i). Imaginary numbers can be thought of as a special case of complex numbers, which have both a real part and an imaginary part.
