Trapezoids have exactly one set of parallel sides.

A square has two sets of parallel sides, so it simply cannot be a trapezoid.
Because a square is a regular polygon with 4 equal sides and 4 equal angles whereas a trapezoid is an irregular 4 sided polygon.
