I wouldn't use either, but centimeters are better than millimeters.
Measurement of a length in centimetres does not require a formula. All it requires is a tape measure calibrated in centimetres.

The unit of measurement for the length of a whiteboard is typically in feet or meters. So, you can measure that bad boy with a good ol' ruler or tape measure. Just make sure you write down those measurements before you inevitably lose the marker cap.
In the US, doors are sold in inches. If you are measuring the door in order to bring in some furniture, any measurement of length - inches or centimeters - will work. It is in centimeters. That is more appropriate
