Well, you can use improper fractions in everyday life by cooking. Like when you need 1/3 cups of sugar, but you have 3/2 cups and you need to solve a problem like how many sugar do I have more? So I guess you can do that and then you can convert 3/2 to a mixed number, and subtract it... :)
