Let x = 0 and solve for y.

Example: Find the y-intercept of 3x + 4y = 12
let x =0 -> 3(0) + 4y = 12
4y = 12
divide by 4 -> y = 3 so the y-intercept is the point (0,3)
That is where the graph 3x+4y = 12 crosses the y-axis.
