Take the derivative of your equation (multiply the coefficient by the exponent and reduce the exponent by 1). This gives:

6x2 - 22x + 12 = 0

This factorises as (6x - 4)(x - 3) so x = 2/3 or 3

Puttin x = 3 in your original equation: 2x3 = 54, -11x2 = -99 and 12x = 36

so 54 - 99 + 36 + 9 should = 0, which it does. Bingo!

Later: This is nonsense! If the original expression ended in eg 8 or 10 the derivative would be the same but 3 would not satisfy the expression!

Perrhaps you should re-list and hope for a more accurate answer. "Sorry-pardon".
