But the methodical Romans themselves would have probably set out and calculated these numbers in the following logical manner:

IXV+IXX = XXXIII

XXXIII+IL = LXXXII

LXXXII+IC = CLXXXI

CLXXXI+IXX = CLXXXXX = CC

Hindu-Arabic conversion:

14+19 = 33

33+49 = 82

82+99 = 181

181+19 = 200

The above numerals are fairly simple to calculate but for more complicated calculations the Romans would have used an abacus counting device.
