Well, you first put the mixed fraction into improper fraction form. You do this by multiplying the denominator and the whole number and then adding the numerator to your answer. After getting an answer, put it over the original denominator, therefore creating an improper fraction. For example: 3½ First multiply the 2 (the denominator) and the 3 (the whole number). Your answer should be 6. Then add 6 (your answer) and 1 (the numerator) and you should get 7. Next, put the 7 (your latest answer) over 2 (your original denominator), creating an improper fraction of 7/2. Finally, divide these two numbers. Either do it the long way using pencil and paper or type "7 / 2 =" into the calculator closest to you. Either way, your answer should be "5.5". Note: / is another way of writing a division symbol.
