You take a number say 9... then you go a certain distance decreasing as you go from whatever number you subtract.
9-5=4
6-3=3
10- -4= 14
I AM IMPROVING THIS ANSWER I AM A DIF. PERSON THEN ABOVE.
I like to think of it as a bank account. If I start with, say, 10 bucks
10
but I buy an ice cream cone that costs 3 bucks
10+ (-3)
then I am subtracting from my account for what I have now.
10 + ( -3 ) = 7
I have 7 dollars left.
But say I buy a 10 $ meal
7 + ( -10 )
Then I owe the bank money.
7 + ( -10 ) = -3

addition and subtract in integers
It is important to add and subtract integers: to get a new integer value in mathematics .
to subtract an integer, add its opposite or additive inverse.
Because otherwise you would only know how to subtract and add with the same integers. Not a particularly useful skill unless just those integers turned up!

add, subtract, multiply, divide
Subtract the smaller from the larger.
Integers do not have sides so the question does not make sense.
Integers
