∙ 14y agoWe don't actually need to know the stopping distance. All we need is 75 mph in 2 seconds.
Acceleration is defined as (change in speed) divided by (time for the change). We have both
of those numbers, so we can immediately write a perfectly good expression for acceleration:
Acceleration = (-75 / 2) miles per hour per second.
The 'dimensions' are correct ... (length) / (time)2. All we have to do is massage it to obtain
the proper units.
(-75 mi/hr) x (1 hr/3,600 sec) x (1609.344 meter/mile) / (2 sec) =
(-75 x 1609.344) / (2 x 3,600) (mile - hour - meter / hour - second - second - mile) =
- 16.764 meters/second2(rounded)

∙ 14y agoThe sprinter's acceleration is 2 meters per second squared.
395000 meters/9000 seconds is 43.889 meters/second
Magnitude of acceleration = (change in speed) / (time for the change) = 2/5 Acceleration = 0.4 meters per second2 north
Average acceleration = (change in speed) divided by (time interval)A = (40 - 25) / 15 = 15/15 = 1 meter/sec2
If an object is travelling 100 meters in 1400 seconds, then it is travelling (100 / 1400) or about 0.0714 meters per second.

That's easy, if the car is initially traveling at 25 meters per second and gradually accelerates 3 meters per second for 6 seconds then the car is traveling at 43 meters per second.
Average acceleration = (change in speed) divided by (time interval)A = (40 - 25) / 15 = 15/15 = 1 meter/sec2

The acceleration of the body is 3 m/s²
acceleration = change in velocity divided by timeaccel = (9-3)/3 = 6/3 = 2 meters per second per second
"470 meters per second" is a speed, not an acceleration. Assuming you mean "470 meters per second square", that is the same as a change of 470 meters per second every second. Just multiply by the number of seconds to get the change in speed."470 meters per second" is a speed, not an acceleration. Because if speed is measured in meters per second (m/s) and time is measured in seconds, the SI unit of acceleration is meters per second per second (m/s2). ^_^
Acceleration = (change in speed) divided by (time for the change)Acceleration = (96 - 32) / 8 = 64/8 = 8 meters per second2
The speed of an object after falling for 3 seconds, ignoring air resistance, would be approximately 29.4 m/s. This value is derived from the acceleration due to gravity (9.8 m/s^2) multiplied by the time the object has been falling (3 seconds).
