you fill the five gallon then dump three of that into the three gallon so you have 3 in the 3 and 2 in the 5 then you dump out the three and fill the 3 with the remaining two gallons and fill the 5 completely so you have a combined 7 gallons.

If you have a 3 gallon jug and a 5 gallon jug You need to measure out exactly 7 gallons of water How do you do it?

There are lots of ways to do this, but here's one: Fill the 5 gallon jug to the top. Pour the water from the 5 gallon jug to the 3 gallon jug until the 3 gallon jug is full. What's left in the 5 gallon jug is 5 - 3 = 2 gallons. Dump what's in the 3 gallon jug. Put the 2 gallons from the larger jug into the smaller jug. Now fill the 5 gallon jug. You'll have 5 + 2 = 7 gallons, as needed.

Fill the 5 gallon jug completely then pour that into the 3 gallon jug. Empty out the 3 gallon jug and pour the remaining water in the 5 gallon jug into the 3 gallon jug. Then just fill up the 5 gal jug again you will have 2 gallons in the 3 gallon jug and 5 gallons in the 5 gallon jug.

If you have a five gallon jug and a 8 gallon jug can you make 1 gallon?

Yes you can. Fill the 8 gallon jug and from it fill the 5 gallon jug. Pour out the 5 gallons and pour the rest of the 8 into it. You now have 3 gallons in the 5 gallon jug Refill the 8 gallon jug and from it finish filling the 5 gallon jug. You now have 5 gallons in the 5 gallon jug and 6 in the 8 gallon. Empty the 5 gallon jug and refill it from the 8 gallon and you have 1 gallon left in the 8 gallon jug. There are other ways of doing this wasting less water. See if you can figure it out.

How can you measure out exactly six gallons of water using only a 4 gallon container and a 9 gallon container?

# Fill the 4-gallon jug with water then put it in the 9-gallon jug. # Repeat this step. The 9-gallon jug now has 8 gallons. # Fill the 4-gallon jug a third time, but pour only enough into the 9-gallon jug to fill it completely with no overflow. # The 4-gallon jug now has three gallons. Put that water aside safely, then repeat 1-3 for a total of six gallons.

If you have a 5 gallon jug and a seven gallon jug no marks on either one the goal is to fill the 7 gallon jug with 6 gallons of water how is this accomplished?

Fill the 5-gallon jug with liquid. Pour the liquid into the 7-gallon jug. Fill the 5-gallon jug with liquid and top-off the 7-gallon jug with the liquid of the 5-gallon. There will one gallon of liquid left in the 5-gallon jug. Empty the contents of the 7-gallon jug and fill it with the one gallon left in the 5-gallon jug. Fill the 5-gallon jug with liquid and pour it into the 7-gallon jug that contains one gallon of liquid. Do the math, one gallon plus five gallons equals six gallons of liquid.
