There is the y- axis which runs vertically through the plane; there is the x axis which runs horizontally through the plane; there is the origin, point (0,0), which is where the two axis meet; there are the quadrants which are the fourths of the plane made by the axis. The quadrants are labeled I, II, III, and IV, starting with one in the upper left corner and increasing counter clockwise. Here's a URL for a picture of it.
