The sizing of conduit systems that wire has to be pulled into is dependant on the physical size of the conductor being drawn into the conduit. The second governing factor is the conductor count of the specific conductor that is needed. A 500 MCM copper conductor with an insulation factor of 90 degrees C is rated at 430 amps.

This is where the conductor count is need by the service, as to whether the service is single or three phase. In this specific case, the electrical code will allow both single and three phase installations to use the same size conduit.

A maximum total of four 500 MCM conductors can be drawn into a 78 mm diameter conduit.

What size rigid conduit for 400 amp service?

4 inch rigid conduit

When do you derate wires in conduit I know the code says more than 3 current carrying conductors but is there a length of conduit run when you should start to derate?

There are two things here to keep in mind. If you are trying to add more conductors to an existing conduit run use the cross sectional area of the conduit to see if more wires can be fitted. The second thing that's relates to length is the voltage drop at the load. To size the conduit work backwards from the load amperage to size the wires. If a long distance is involved a voltage drop calculation will be needed. Then select the conduit size to accommodate the wires recommended for that load amperage. The length of conduit run is not brought into the equation on de rating wire size it is always about keeping the voltage up at the load end of the run by increasing the wire size and selecting the proper conduit size for that wire.

What size conduit is needed for a 100 amp service according to the nec?

Three number three wires can be installed in an inch and one quarter conduit.

Is it permitted to use flexible conduit over 6 feet in length as a grounding means?

No. The new electrical code change does not allow any flexible conduit to be used as a ground means. It is now required to have a green ground wire pulled into the conduit with the other conductors in the flexible conduit. This grounded bonding conductor is not counted as wire fill when calculating the size of the flexible conduit to use

What size pipe for awg 4?

Conduit is sized by the number of conductors that are being pulled into it. The conduit size of 1/2" will allow one #4 wire to be pulled into it. 3/4" will allow 2 and 1" will allow 4 #4 conductors to be pulled into it.

Is it legal to support a conduit from another conduit of the same size?

No, the conduit has to be supported individually from a supportive structure. The spacing of the strapping is related to the size of the conduit.

What is the actual hole size for 1 inch conduit?

Actual hole size for 1 inch conduit is 1.362"

What size conduit is needed for wiring in Indian houses?

The size of conduit is based on the size of the wires in it. The size of the wires depends on the load connected in the house. Without these other two values an answer can not be given.

What size conduit for 200 amps?

120mm

What size should under ground conduit be from pole to meter base?

For new 200 amp services the conduit size should be 3 inch PVC.

What is the hole size required for a 2.5 conduit?

A trade size hole for a 2-1/2" EMT conduit connector, the hole needs to be 2-7/8" in diameter. A 3" rigid conduit can also use this size hole without the lock nuts falling into the hole.

What is the multiplier for 45 degree offset in conduit bending?

Back set for all conduit sizes is not the same. The greater the diameter of the conduit the length of back set increases. Without the diameter size of the conduit, an answer can not be given.

Can you list the different PVC conduit fittings?

ma - male adapter, fa - female adapter, coup - coupling, conn - connector, cap - end cap, reducer - bushings that reduce the size of a conduit to allow connection to a smaller size conduit, expansion joints - to allow the expansion and contraction in the conduit system.

What are the main principles concerning conduit bodies?

Conduit bodies are used to provide pulling access in a run of conduit, to conserve space where a full size bend radius would be impractical, to allow more bends to be made in a section of conduit or to split a conduit path into multiple directions.
