Is it true that to solve a problem that involves multiplication of both decimals and fractions you can write the numbers in the same form before you multiply?

Yes - it is much easier if all the numbers are in the same form.
Personally, unless any decimal is an irrational, I would convert them all to fractions as it may allow for simplification before any calculation (multiplication and/or division) is done.

∙ 9y agoYes, this is true. For example, if you wanted to multiply 3.2 by 4-1/2, you could write it as 3.2 x 4.5 or as 3-1/5 x 4-1/2 (which would be more simply calculated if converted to 16/5 x 9/2). In both cases, you get the equivalent answer of 14.4 (144/10). Whether you use fractions or decimals is more personal choice but one way can sometimes be easier than another.
