*This is easily guessed but the albegraic solution uses two equations, perimeter and area.

Perimeter = twice the length plus twice the width = 2L + 2W

Area = length times width = L * W

P = 2L + 2W = 18

A = L * W = 14

2L = (18 - 2W) and L = (18 - 2W) / 2 so L = 9 - W

Substituting this value in the Area equation

A = L*W = (9 - W) * W = 14

The equation W2 - 9 W +14 = 0 has the solutions (W - 7)(W - 2) = 0

The dimensions must be 7 feet by 2 feet (either can be length or width).
