There are three primary methods of describing a relation in mathmatics with two cominations and an opposite for each statement.

X = 3 means X "is equal to" 3.

X ≠ 3 means X "is NOT equal to" 3. (a slanted slash through any of the following symbols adds a NOT to the meaning)

X > 2 means X "is greater than" 2.

X < 4 means X "is less than" 4.

X ≥ 1 means X "is greater than or equal to" 1.

X ≤ 5 means X "is less than or equal to" 5.

Two other relationships that are used less often are:

X ≡ Y means X "is identical to" Y.

X ≈ Y means X "is approximately equal to" Y.
