It's difficult to answer this one, since the two disciplines are inter-dependent. They co-evolved side by side over the Millenia. However, it's worth noting that up until the late 18th Century, mathematics was actually seen as one of the ARTS, and was classed alongside music and poetry! It was seen as a kind of 'poetry of numbers', and it is indeed true that some of the thought disciplines found in artistic subjects are shared by maths as well.

Without Mathematics the 2 in H2O would not exist nor would you know the equations to break down elements and combine them. How can you break down a sugar molecule without the use of numbers? The birth of numbers, hence, mathematics, there would be no science as it is the equations produced by mathematicians that provided the foundations of science and it's productions/findings. IMO.
